This is a small, deliberately quiet record of one engineer's working life.
Notes, projects, dates, and a few links worth keeping. It will not market me, rebrand me, or tell you a story about my potential. It will tell you what I have read, written, shipped, and decided — and when. If that is useful to you, the index below is the whole site.
I · Now
Where my attention is.
Working on platform observability and the small craft of API design. Slowly re-reading A Pattern Language. Walking more. Saying yes to fewer meetings.
Updated . The next update will probably contradict this one in a small but interesting way.
II · Writing
Index of notes, in order.
- 2026·04·24 On second-best decisions
- 2026·04·17 Three signals are usually enough
- 2026·04·09 A week on the wrong abstraction
- 2026·03·28 Reading Alexander, slowly
- 2026·02·11 Why I keep redrawing the same diagram
- 2025·12·20 The runbook that nobody reads
- 2025·11·02 Boring contracts
III · Projects
Records, not promotions.
- 2024 — present
Quiet observability at $work
Replaced a noisy dashboard culture with three signals and a runbook. Pages dropped 64%. Held.
- 2023
Versioning policy for an internal API
A small set of rules a team could keep agreeing with through a reorganization. The clearest writing was the most contested PR.
- 2022
A tiny eval harness
Made an opinionated team agree on what "better" meant for two months. Then we forgot, and that was fine.
- 2026 — open
Field notebook for engineers
Why this site exists. A small public archive of work, decisions, and the loops worth keeping.
IV · Reading
Books I'd loan.
- 2026 A Pattern Language — Christopher Alexander
- 2025 Stories of Your Life and Others — Ted Chiang
- 2024 Programming as Theory Building — Peter Naur
- 2023 The Mythical Man-Month — Brooks
